The Black Swan

I tread carefully and prayerfully before I broach this subject, but it is one that is on my heart so I will just have to come right out and talk about it.

Anyone that reads my Blog knows that I am a Christian. It defines me, describes me and directs the steps I take in my life. I don't preach here, nor do I teach God's word. This is my blog about Art mostly and this I believe has been Gifted and inspired by Jesus. I am only a vessel.

Sometimes God's Grace in my life spills over onto my Blog and I share how He has Blessed my Husband and I. I cant contain my Joy and want to share what He is doing in my life. I hope I do that in a Non preaching way. I am sensitive to those who don't believe as I do, yet this is MY blog, so I can say or do what I want, and I take liberty sometimes. I LOVE all people, as we are ALL Gods children with some of us in different places in our Walks with Him. ( Some don't even know that He IS walking alongside them :) )

I am wanting to "Preach" about something, so I had to preface it first, so that hopefully you will know it is coming from a place of Love and NOT self righteousness or a Holier than thou attitude. That is SO not me. I have been through too much and seen too much to ever want to judge where someone else is at.

Please don't go watch The Black Swan.

I think it is evil and very dark.

There are SO many things that can lift us up, and glorify what is Good and Decent in us and our fellow humans. This movie is not about that at all. I bring this up because I have read several CHRISTIAN bloggers giving positive reviews on it. ( Please don't think I am singling anyone out, I have read MULTIPLE blog reviews on it, and I am not referring to anyone in particular ) I have not seen it, but in reading the Bio, it deals with lesbianism, evil, perversion, etc, I don't want to be anywhere NEAR it. And those of us who are Christian shouldn't pay their hard earned money to see it. The more money they make, the more movies like this they will make.

Times are SO hard now, economically, morally, spiritually etc. Families are falling apart. Children are turning to the streets, because both parents are working to make ends meet. And both parents HAVE to work in a lot of situations. Affairs are ramped. Everything goes as long as it "makes me happy" is today's attitude. Morality seems to be a dead issue anymore.

I asked my ex-husband during our divorce ( 12 years ago ) , if he was concerned that the Affair he was having ( behind my back ) would make God angry and his response was " God wants me to be Happy " Ummmmm REALLY ??? Ya think ??? This is the attitude of a lot of people today.

I think that we have to take a stand as Americans and Christians and say NO, we don't want this filth. We don't want this for our Nation, our communities, our families. No, we don't want you to paint our world as dark and dirty, No, we don't want our children being raised "Hopeless" because they have seen it all already and what they see is ugly. I realize that we cant go back to the 1950's, and live life as a Doris Day movie. BUT there sure is a LOT we CAN eliminate. It isnt about being Naive, it is about making a CHOICE about what goes into us.

Everyone of us has been in a car, driving down a road an there are flashing lights, ambulance, police cars and we KNOW that there has most likely been an accident Right ?? And what is the first thing we do ? We slow down and LOOK. We are curious. That is our nature. However, once you LOOK you are going to store whatever you see in your mind FOREVER. Our brains are computers and NOTHING can be deleted. Every awful thing we take in, stays with us, FOREVER. Oh, maybe you don't think about it every day, but it will pop up again, I am sure. The more garbage we put in, the more it depresses, discourages, makes us fear, disgusts us, NUMBS us, and ultimately changes us. I made a deal with myself several years ago, not to look anymore. Not to look at anything, or anyone that wasn't edifying, uplifting and worthy of my time.

My Prayer is that YOU too will treat your minds as the PURE vessels they are and not submit your " Database" to what Society tells us is the Must see of the day. The Must sees are the Beauty of Nature, The Beauty of our families and friends, artwork and jobs, happy movies and fun times, volunteering our time, speaking GOOD of others, and our Faith.

Let Hollywood rot and implode with their filth. I don't want it ! There are a lot of fun movies to watch, I am not saying to boycott movies, but they are trying to slip it under the door as " Art " when it is perversion !

Drive by and don't look !

Ok, Done Preaching :)

Hugs to you my dear friends : ) :) :)

Thank you for speaking out! I too am a Christian, that is the reason I started blogging..wanting to bring the name of the Lord out where others might see Him.Even on tv there is so many "dark" movies and shows. The words you speak are so true!
Many blessings on you, and keep looking up!

Well said, Rhea. I very often have to turn off even TV shows that I find offensive and crude in content, language, and scenes. I just know that God wouldn't want me wasting my time on that kind of drivel.

Big TX Hugs,

I appreciate you taking the time to stand up for your morals and values and supporting what it best for our families and children. You are right there is so much trash out there being passed off as art and Hollywood has no boundries when it comes to making a buck.

I had a friend who went to see the movie and she said she felt like she had wasted her money it was so bad and dark.

I don't want to put stuff like that into my brain like you said and frankly the only way that Hollywood gets the message is if they lose money on their nasty movies. In a world where anything goes, We need to stand up and say enough is enough. We don't want your filth and trash anymore. Thank you for doing this!

Thank you for your post. For standing up for what you believe in and for expressing your concern and willingness to speak out toward a goal of protecting others around you. Christianity has been watered down. Even messages from pulpits are filled with, 'greasy grace'. The don't worry, be happy philosophies. There are many movies I have not seen; Avatar is a recent and very popular one, because of the spiritual impact from these types of shows. Even the entertainment shows like, ET, call evil good and good evil when they refer to pornography actors as adult film stars and tout the virtues of the show, 'Modern family'. Perhaps if we Christians started calling a spade a spade instead of watering down sin, more people would be living better lives instead of being caught up in the world. Applause for your bravery and for listening to what God wanted you to say in your post. It's not easy, but you did it.

I have no intention on seeing this movie or most movies that are out... Wishes for a lovely peaceful weekend.

I've never heard of that movie but we've only been to about 4 in the last 20 years because of the perversion Hollywood is thrusting upon us AND our church recommends we see only G movies.

Very, very well said, sugar! I agree with you wholeheartedly with every single thing you've said here and your valiance in saying it. We have to stand up for things now as Christians!! That's imperative. Good for you, sweetpea.

Connie

Hi Rhea,
Hubby and I hardly ever go to movies any more.We pick up the classics at garage sales and enjoy watching them. I agree with watching ourselves. It's too easy to go in the wrong direction. Besides I'd rather spend my money on treasures that I can touch and created things.
Happy weekend! I didn't fell that you were "preaching"...
Warmly,
deb :)

I also admire you for standing up for the things God would want us to do!

Rhea, I really was not aware of the content of this movie but to me when I saw the previews it appears the girls have eating disorders for one! And our girls struggle already with the model body skinny... Thanks for the heads up I would much rather fill my time up with positive uplifting entertainment. Hugs, Diane

I personally believe per the Bible we are to be kind and love everyone. Even when we don't agree with it. However I think it's sad that people have to apologize for having morals.
There's nothing wrong with Christian values!!

Yanno, when this movie trailer was first shown, I thought it was just more or less the "day in the life" of a prima ballerina. Now, recently, they are showing more darker trailers (screaming, blood, crying). I had no idea how dark this movie was.

Anyway, I'd rather paint, craft, make new blogging friends and be inspired by the talents the Good Lord has graced so many with.

Have a great day, Rhea!

My favorite thing to do on Sunday afternoons is reading through my bookmarked craft blogs. Every once in a while I realize the blogger is a Christian.

I'm so glad to read what you wrote about the movie and your stance. It's refreshing for someone to not hide their faith and state how they feel about worldly things.

Your blog is very lovely.

Thanks and God bless.

I do agree with your blog. I have not seen the "Black Swan", but I really have no intention on seeing it. There are so many movies and TV programs that are just plain awful. I am 65 years old, and I can remember when TV and movies were worth watching. I hardly watch TV anymore. Every movie I rent is just awful. That is why I craft and make things more and more. The world is becoming a scary place, and also a very Godless place. I just pray that things will turn around, and people will recognize what is going on. God bless you and keep on blogging what is on your mind.
Love Kathy

Dear Miss RHEA,
Your message makes me cry...you speak the truth and nothing but the truth sista....sometimes I feel isolated and alone on my feelings...I wrote about pornography, which by the way is destroying America, and lesbians and gays and my blog and e mail was flooded with pornography adds and hateful things but you know...my allegiance is to the LORD and he is who I will stand before for judgment. I am more afraid/disappointed of displeasing him than the world. I pray for America everyday and that pornography is destroyed.
My husband and I never go to the movies and I didn't know about the Black Swan. Thank you for speaking out.
HAVE A SUGAR SWEET DAY
